About the Role
Pan-Pacific Mechanical is seeking experienced Estimators to join its Preconstruction team. There are currently two openings, with one focused primarily on HVAC and one focused primarily on plumbing and process piping.
This position requires experience working within the mechanical contracting industry. The strongest candidates will have direct experience estimating plumbing, HVAC and particularly process-piping systems for complex commercial, industrial and technical facilities.
Projects may include hospitals, biomedical facilities, laboratories, cleanrooms, pharmaceutical environments, high-purity systems, RO/DI systems, fuel-oil systems and other complex process applications.
Responsibilities
• Manage all stages of the estimating and bidding process.
• Perform detailed process-piping, plumbing and/or HVAC takeoffs.
• Read and interpret P&IDs, construction drawings and specifications.
• Develop material and labor cost estimates for large and complex projects.
• Prepare Design-Build, Design-Assist, Plans & Specs estimates and conceptual budgets.
• Attend bid meetings, job walks and preconstruction meetings.
• Prepare bid proposals, bid forms and supporting documentation.
• Review project scopes and new construction contracts.
• Price change bulletins and additional project scope.
• Collaborate across plumbing and HVAC estimating teams on combined pursuits.
• Assist with project budgets and Schedule of Values during project startup.
• Identify value-engineering opportunities and alternative solutions.
• Coordinate with project-management teams after project award.
Required Qualifications
• Five or more years of process-piping and/or mechanical estimating experience strongly preferred.
• Previous experience working for a mechanical subcontractor strongly preferred.
• Strong process-piping knowledge.
• Experience estimating plumbing and/or HVAC systems.
• Ability to read and understand P&IDs.
• Experience performing piping and process takeoffs.
• Experience with Design-Build, Design-Assist and Plans & Specs projects.
• Experience with biomedical facilities, laboratories, pharmaceutical facilities, cleanrooms or similar technical environments preferred.
• Proficiency with estimating and on-screen takeoff software.
• Trimble AutoBid experience preferred.
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
• Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple bids and meet tight deadlines.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate comes directly from the mechanical contracting industry and understands how plumbing, HVAC and process-piping systems are designed, estimated and installed.
They should be comfortable estimating complex piping systems rather than primarily general commercial construction and be able to work closely with preconstruction, engineering and project-management teams.
